I plan to utilize consumer directed services (CDS): Can I use your program for less than five days a week?
Yes. We are very happy to work with individuals to provide services in CDS or any type of funded program for as needed by the individual.
HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION
My daughter/son is transitioning from high school. How do your programs support the academics he/she received in school?
Opportunity Networks offers activities which apply skills learned in a classroom into real life. Our focus on community activities and involvement in the community promote real learning. We provide independent and daily living skills activities which allow people to take the skills learned in school and apply them in a real life. Skills such as math, reading , following directions, or organizational ability can easily be reinforced or new teachings can happen which allow an individual to take skills learned in school and consistently apply them in real life.
Working with schools we often follow IEP goals and report on progress of an individual. The benefit to our programming is that these skills are learned in the community. If you've already left school and want to continue to practice your skills, we use the same process. We listen to the needs of the individual, design an activity to meet the need and support the goal of continued academics. There are many opportunities within a day which provide for supporting an individual's use of math or reading skills. We make sure we're aware of these and train our staff to encourage the individual to use the opportunity.
We also facilitate people taking classes offered in the local community, assist people in basic money management, and help develop plans for organizational strategies. So if you want to work on your budgeting skills, we'll design a series of activities which allow for that to happen in your day and monitor the outcome by week or month. We tie these activities together and weave a program which supports a better understanding of what is required to live independently.
